1. ECTEL consumer survey

The Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) is currently conducting a consumer survey. The survey forms part of a short term consumer awareness and education program that ECTEL has undertaken, a prelude to the development of a long term strategy for the same. The purpose of the survey is to canvas the attitudes, views, knowledge and perception of consumers in ECTEL member states, which will in turn help to inform the development of the consumer education, awareness and protection strategy. The survey will be available until June 10, and can be accessed via this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/85WYDDT. The public is invited to participate.

3. Invitation for Bids for the supply of photovoltaic systems

The Government of Saint Lucia has announced its intention to reduce energy consumption in the public sector by 20 percent by the year 2020. To assist in this regard, funding has been received from the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the “Sustainable Energy in Saint Lucia: From Concept to Action Project.” A key component of this project is the installation of photovoltaic systems on suitable public buildings. The Department of Sustainable Development therefore invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for the procurement of two 25kWp photovoltaic (PV) systems as part of a strategy to incorporate sustainable energy into the public sector. 4. CXC-CSEC, CAPE timetables available

The Educational Evaluation and Assessment Unit (EEAU) of the Department of Education would like to inform all PRIVATE candidates who registered for the CXC-CSEC and CAPE May/June 2017 examinations that timetables are available for pickup. Candidates should collect their timetables at the office where registered: the Department of Education, 3rd Floor, Francis Compton Building, Waterfront, Castries, or the Education Offices in districts six and eight. Please note that candidates should present proper photo identification when collecting the timetables.

5. Police sensitization workshop scheduled for April

PROUD has rescheduled the police sensitization workshop for Tuesday, April 4, and Wednesday April 5, in order to facilitate the attendance of all members on the Social Stakeholders Committee. An opening ceremony will be held on April 4 at 9 a.m. On April 5, all members of the Social Stakeholders Committee are requested to attend the day’s session at the Police Training School, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The department requests confirmation on or before Friday, March 24. Attached is a copy of the workshop’s agenda.

6. IRD Vieux Fort, resumes services

The public is notified that the Vieux Fort Sub Accountant’s Office, which also temporarily houses the Inland Revenue Department has resumed its normal operations. The cash section operates from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; otherwise the office functions from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Accountant General’s office would like to thank the public for its patience and understanding.

11. SJH telephone service disruption

St. Jude Hospital is currently experiencing a temporary disruption to its telephone system. As such the hospital is unable to make or receive phone calls. The hospital is working with itsservice provider to have the service restored as a matter of urgency. St. Jude Hospital apologizes to its patients and the general public for any inconvenience caused.

12. Marigot Post Office relocated

15. Business training for small properties

The Department of Tourism, Information and Broadcasting will facilitate the final module in its Business Training Program for small properties on the island. The Department anticipates that completion of the various modules will result in increased competitiveness among properties, enhanced product-perceived value for money, improvement in the tourism value chain and improved monitoring of industry performance. The workshop will focus on the following areas: Forms of Business, Technical Support for Small Properties, Monitoring Impacts of Incentives and Industry Performance, Business Ethics, and the Importance of Disaster Preparedness. The agenda for the day also includes an open forum titled “Strategic Opportunities for the Sector” aimed at identifying areas which small properties can capitalize on to leverage their importance and relevance in the accommodation sector. This session will be facilitated by Hon. Dominic Fedee, Minister for Tourism, Information and Broadcasting; Agnes Francis, Chairperson of the SLTB; Noorani Azeez, Executive Vice President of the SLHTA; and Perle Alcindor, Technical Officer, Department of Tourism. The training session will be held on Oct. 13 at the Palm Haven Conference Room, Rodney Bay, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

16. Desruisseaux: Mail delivery suspended

19. Pursue Higher Education in Taiwan

These scholarship programs provide opportunities to young, talented St. Lucians to study in Taiwan for Bachelor, Master or PhD degrees. 22. Closure of Park Estate Road, Saltibus

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport is working feverishly to restore a collapsed box culvert on the Park Estate Road in Saltibus, and as such wishes to thank residents and the motoring public in that area for their patience during the ongoing works. The Ministry advises motorists that the Park Estate Road will remain closed during the works and that they should utilize alternative routes—the Balca and Tete Morne roads through Gya Bois. A foot bridge has been constructed for pedestrian use. The Ministry apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

24. Saint Lucia Geothermal Resource Development Project

The Government of Saint Lucia is expecting funding in the amount of US$2 million from the World Bank towards the cost of a Geothermal Resource Development Project. Part of the proceeds will go towards hiring a consultant to provide services as Technical Coordinator to the Ministry of Sustainable Development. 25. FRC Retreat

The Folk Research Centre (FRC) will be holding a retreat on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. at its premises at Mount Pleasant, Castries. A strategic plan was established in 2012 for the triennium 2012 – 2015. The process of strategic planning is an ongoing exercise. It is hoped that Saturday’s review will be the beginning of a continuous process that will guide the FRC in its quest to define strategic imperatives pursuant to the provisions of its Memorandum of Association.
